Being Michael’s Daddy

Wishful Thinking

November 8th, 2008

It’s a brisk, damp fall morning. I’ve just gotten Michael out of the van, and we’re walking toward Ms K’s.

Michael looks down on the sidewalk in front of her house.

“Hey, look at all these monies!”

“Money?” I ask. “Where?”

“All over the ground!” He stirs the leaves with his foot. “See?”

“The leaves are money?”

“Yeah!”

I hope you always see it that way, my little boy.

He’s so adorable! We should all be able continue to see things through a child’s eyes.

I really need a good dose of his perspective every day. I think that’s why God sent him to us.

    That’s pretty cool.

Reminder!!!!! You have an important meeting starting in 10 minutes!

You remembered! I’m touched. I might actually be on time to it today, too. That’ll be a first.

Who’s Michael?

Michael is the surprise son of a second-time married couple who, having daughters from their respective previous marriages, believed they were through having kids. He's a red-headed ball of fire who hit the ground running and hasn't stopped to take a breath since. Every day he gives me new ways to learn patience, resourcefulness, firmness and love by providing intense training under live fire conditions.
