As I’m making dinner, the kids are all playing Beatles Rock Band.
They’re really good at it; even Michael joins in, playing the drums sometimes and other times singing. He’s actually got a pretty accurate voice, and considering the fact that he can’t actually read the lyrics, he gets most of the words right.
And as they played, it occurred to me that the Beatles songs are around 40 years old.
Who’d have thunk that kids would be enjoying songs that were popular more than a generation ago?
To follow the logical thought along, if we’d had the Wii back in 1980, my brothers and I probably would have been playing “Glenn Miller Big Band”. And we’d be saving up our money for “Clarinet Hero III”
Amazing what technology can do. That, and the Beatles are just way cool, and always will be.
I love playing Rock Band with the family. Not only do we have a great time playing together, but the Weasels also get great music education and an appreciation for the classics. Watching them rock out to old school tunes is incredible.
(MD) Michael calls the game “Beazle Rock Band”. He had been calling it “Weasel Rock Band” for a while because he couldn’t separate the often-used word “Weasel” and the relatively new “Beatle” in his mind. I found it amusing.
My kids love the Beatles and have even had their music put on MP3′s. And rockband is so much fun. It’s a great combo.
(MD) It’s amazing, how long-lasting and far-reaching the Beatles music is. And the kids LOVE playing rock band. So does their dad, too… but I try not to butt in too often.
Sounds like fun. How many songs do you have? Do the kids dance while they sing?
(MD) There are a lot of songs, some from each particular phase of the group’s existence. Can’t dance: the concentration level required to perform is too intense. You’ll have to see it.
Awesome!!! I bet they’d like our old renditions of the Beatles songs better, though
(MD) Actually, they do like our renditions pretty good. It’s just hard to find a cassette player around here. I still gotta transfer those tapes…
Sniff. I don’t have rockband, but I do love the Beatles. I think it’s great Michael knows the words to Beatles’s songs. It’s hard to imagine that the surviving members of that great rock band are in their 60s.
(MD) We don’t have a lot of video games, but the ones we do have are rated for all, and have been carefully chosen for enjoyment by all in our family. This one was a natural choice for them, and I am delighted that the Beatles edition is available AND so widely appreciated by my kids. Totally amazing that they can reach so many generations.
Classics never die. Hopefully Braden will let me join his band some day on whatever insane games they come up with by then.
