This site provides a venue for the ramblings of a late-forties engineer named Tom. Here he writes about his son Michael, a thoroughly unexpected addition to a brand-new blended family.
Tom moved to Oregon in 1999 and was divorced shortly afterward, doing his best to navigate the raging waters of parenting two daughters. In 2002, Tom met a wonderful woman who had a daughter of her own. They married in 2003, and moved into a new house. Thus began the trials and tribulations that go along with creating a brand new blended family. Tom and his wife assumed they had their parenting work well in hand.
Not even a year later, God decided to turn things up to 11. He blessed the new family with a baby named Michael: a red-headed, blue-eyed boy adrift in a sea of brown-haired, brown-eyed parents and sisters.
Michael hit the ground running and he hasn’t stopped since. Every day brings a new adventure, a new lesson in patience, a new batch of crises and opportunities as Tom and his wife try to figure out this enigmatic little boy. Tom figured the only way he’d survive is to write it all out. He considers it a catharsis.
And it’s the only way he’ll remember any of it twenty years down the road.
